Opening The Animals by Estela de Castro
Yesterday we attended the opening of the exhibition The Animals by the photographer Estela de Castro
A photographic project with which Estela de Castro aims to raise awareness of animal abuse, through portraits of animals rescued from situations of abandonment, hunting, circuses, zoos, laboratories, run-ins, nurseries or illegal trafficking.
This series of moving images mark a position when looking at the world, without making a distinction between animals and humans.
We live in a world surrounded by violence against animals without considering that they are sentient beings with their own needs. The animals is a series of portraits of rescued animals that fights to denounce different types of exploitation suffered by many of the species with which we share the planet. Portraits accompanied by a short text explaining the stories behind each one.
Many come from illegal traffic and nurseries, or are wild animals locked up in zoos, exploited in circuses or victims of petting and subsequent abandonment. If they hadn’t been rescued, many would have died in slaughterhouses after a life of overcrowding, in experimental laboratories, victims of hunting, vicarious violence, or died in the wild after being run over.
This work highlights the work done by protectorates, sanctuaries, recovery centers or reserves, whose work has given a second chance to all the animals portrayed in the show.
This project has been carried out in Gaia Sanctuary, Rainfer, Animal Rescue, Wild Forest Reserve, Casa de Vane, Primadomus, Fieb Foundation, Grefa, Birds Friends, Granja Natura and Vegan Sanctuary.
