SIGN AGAINST THE MASCLETÁ THAT WILL BE HELD IN THE CITY OF MADRID WITHOUT CONSIDERING ANIMALS AND CITIZENSHIP
The Vegan Association of Catalonia and many other organizations concerned about animals and the environment denounce the Mascletá that is organized in the city of Madrid. The authorities do not consider animal welfare and public health.
Next Sunday, February 18, the Madrid City Council will hold the first mascletà on the esplanade of the Pont del Rei, located in Madrid Rio. Although this event promises to be a show to promote Valencian culture, several environmental and animal protection organizations have expressed their astonishment at the possible negative impacts that this celebration could have.
The mascletà by its own definition implies the development of pyrotechnic artifacts characterized by a strong sound impact whose main attraction is precisely based on the search for the greatest auditory noise, highly concentrated in time and space.
For this reason, these types of shows cause great stress in companion animals, through fear and panic, which prompts them to run away and develop extreme nervous attitudes that have a very negative effect on their health and well-being. There is also the fact that the Madrid Río area is an urban location where many citizens go for walks with their animals and it is located in a residential area with many pet owners.
For these reasons we have asked the municipal authorities of Madrid to reconsider the decision and decide to cancel the celebration of this Mascletá. It is not a traditional element of Madrid, it does not contribute anything to the leisure or entertainment of the citizens and has important negative connotations for the welfare of animals and human beings.
We invite you to politely express your opposition to the organization of this event that involves so much suffering for our animals. You can do this through the Madrid City Council website, in the Suggestions section: General Sugerencias y reclamaciones – Madrid City Council
