715,606 signatures demand an end to bullfighting torture: #NoEsMiCultura reaches Congress
A few days ago, the popular legislative initiative #NoEsMiCultura achieved a historic milestone: bringing 715,606 signatures to Congress to demand the repeal of the law that protects bullfighting as cultural heritage. This massive mobilization highlights the growing rejection by a large part of Spanish society of this brutal practice, which, far from being culture, is a manifestation of barbarity.
No Es Mi Cultura: A movement for animal justice
The #NoEsMiCultura Legislative Popular Initiative, led by AnimaNaturalis and CAS International, aims to repeal the law that protects bullfighting as cultural heritage. This collective effort has involved hundreds of activists, organizations, and volunteers across the country, working tirelessly to achieve this goal.
Its mission is clear: to demonstrate that bullfighting does not represent Spanish culture but is instead an outdated tradition that perpetuates the torture and suffering of innocent animals in the name of entertainment. The numbers speak for themselves: over 2,000 people have worked for months collecting signatures, far exceeding the minimum required to bring this proposal to Congress.
Bullfighting: A deep wound in society
Calling “culture” the torture of an animal until its death is an insult to the values of a society that claims to defend justice, compassion, and respect for all living beings. Every year, thousands of bulls are exploited and brutally killed in arenas across the country, while some defend this practice as an artistic or cultural expression. In reality, bullfighting is the institutionalized representation of violence.
New generations are increasingly rejecting this cruel spectacle. Society is evolving towards greater empathy for animals and recognizing that they have the right to live without being exploited. The logic is simple: no tradition can justify suffering.
Veganism: A commitment to life
Rejecting bullfighting is just one step in a profound transformation toward a value system that prioritizes life and respect for animals. Veganism is not just a dietary choice but an ethical stance that rejects all forms of animal exploitation, whether in entertainment, food, fashion, or experiments.
At the Vegan Association of Catalunya, we celebrate this historic milestone as proof that society is changing. The abolition of bullfighting is a necessary step in building a future where respect for all living beings is a fundamental value.
Torture can never be culture, and we will continue working tirelessly to eradicate all forms of animal exploitation.
